How to prepare for your first day in teaching!

First days can sometimes feel a little daunting, maybe it’s your first time working in education or just a new school, either way we want to give you some pointers to help your day run a smooth course.

1.      Dress appropriately.

We always suggest going for a smart casual approach. Keep it simple and smart to set the standard for the children around you. Being well-presented can set a good impression to schools from the start, and this could lead to more work in the future.

2.      Be organised

Great organisational skills show effort and hard work. Timekeeping is a large part of the role of a teacher/teaching assistant so make sure you’re prioritising the right things when working.

3.      Be positive

The way you act and the attitude you present will be impressionable to the students and teachers around you, you don’t want to give out the wrong message. Staying positive will help those around you feel lifted. Happiness can be infectious.

4.      Communicate confidently

Communication is so important in teaching. Clear written and spoken communication are both used all throughout the learning process for students, so being confident in your communication skills is a valuable strength in education.

Finally, enjoy yourself.

Teaching is a luxury you are responsible for the development and shaping of growing minds. Be grateful for the opportunities you can get from your work and enjoy the time you have with each new experience.
